Dr. Feder presents arthritis research to the American PT Association

February 27, 2014

On February 4th, Dr. John Feder, along with his co-authors Frank Hoeffner, PT & Smita Rao, PhD, attended the Combined Sections Meeting (CSM) of the American Physical Therapy Association to present research results on the benefits of Cheilectomy and Biplanar Phalangeal Osteotomy, a surgical procedure for foot arthritis.

Many patients with severe foot arthritis have had to resort to surgery where their joints were either fused together or completely removed. Dr. Feder and his co-authors presented research on a newer innovative approach, Cheilectomy and Biplanar Phalangeal Osteotomy, where the joint can be preserved by decompressing and realigning the hallux (big toe) joint. This procedure not only minimizes foot pain but also restores normal motion of the foot and normalizes walking patterns.

If you have foot arthritis and want to learn more about this procedure, you can schedule an appointment with Dr. Feder on our “Request an Appointment” page.
