The Orlin & Cohen Orthopedic Group Welcomes the Newest Members of Its Sports Medicine Practice

Merrick, NY (October 9, 2019) – The Orlin & Cohen Orthopedic Group, Long Island’s leading orthopedic practice and an affiliate of Northwell Health, is pleased to announce the appointments of Leslie Ellis, M.D., Alex A. Rothfeld, M.D., and Vincent Sperandeo, D.N.P., as the newest members of its sports medicine practice.

Leslie Ellis, M.D., is a board-certified, fellowship-trained primary care sports medicine specialist who has lectured, presented, and published on a number of sports medicine-related topics, including fracture care in trauma, use of a knee immobilizer in the emergency department, bone stress injuries, and ultrasound techniques. Before joining Orlin & Cohen, Dr. Ellis was the head team physician of Hillside High School football in Durham, NC, assistant team physician of Elon University football in Elon, NC, and assistant team physician of Duke University athletics in Durham, NC.

Dr. Ellis is an affiliate of the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine and the American College of Emergency Physicians. She is a graduate of New York University School of Medicine.

Alex A. Rothfeld, M.D., is a board-eligible, fellowship-trained sports medicine specialist who has researched extensively on a number of sports medicine-related topics, including shoulder and knee MRIs, the scoring system used to assess shoulder injuries, and kneecap repair with a knotless suture.

Dr. Rothfeld is an affiliate of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and is affiliated with Southside Hospital in Bay Shore, Mather Hospital in Port Jefferson, Huntington Hospital in Huntington and Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead. He is a graduate of Chicago Medical School, Rosalind Franklin University in Chicago.

Vincent Sperandeo, D.N.P., holds a doctorate in nursing practice and has taught on, and practiced in, a variety of orthopedic, emergency medicine and primary care settings. Before joining Orlin & Cohen, he was president and CEO of Fusion Healthcare, a primary care and sports medicine practice in Port Jefferson, NY, and Chief Nurse Practitioner at St. Joseph Hospital’s emergency department in Bethpage, NY. Dr. Sperandeo continues to hold a position of adjunct professor of Emergency Medicine and Family Medicine at Drexel University in Philadelphia, PA. Known as “Dr. Vinny,” he has been involved in sports medicine for 20 years, providing care to athletes at St. Anthony’s and Ward Melville high schools.

He is affiliated with Long Island Jewish Valley Stream Hospital in Valley Stream, NY.
