Total hip replacement surgery by Bradley Gerber, M.D.

July 29, 2012

Rockville Centre, NY – Bradley Gerber, M.D., a total joint replacement specialist at the Orlin & Cohen Orthopedic Group, recently performed a total hip replacement surgery on a 63-year old woman at South Nassau Communities Hospital that was broadcast live via satellite to 300 orthopedic surgeons at the North American Hip and Knee Symposium in Arizona.

A fellowship-trained physician who is nationally-recognized for his use of leading-edge techniques, Dr. Gerber is one of only two joint replacement specialists in the nation invited to present at the symposium sponsored by Smith & Nephew, a leading global manufacturer of orthopedic surgical systems.

“I probably perform more replacement surgeries using their short modular femoral (SMF) hip system than any other physician in the world, so I welcomed the opportunity to share my experience with other surgeons,” explains Dr. Gerber, who also serves as Chief of Total Joint Replacement at South Nassau. “I find the SMF system less invasive and more versatile than other total hip replacement techniques and that it provides my patients with more stability and greater range of motion as well.” He estimates that he has performed more than 250 SMF implants on patients ranging in age from 25 to 93 with virtually no adverse outcomes.

“Most patients are up and moving in the hospital with assistance the same day of their surgery and are usually discharged to a rehabilitation center two days later,” he adds.
