In January 2026, I woke up with what felt like a knot in the upper left side of my trapezius muscle. Over the next several days, the pain progressively worsened. Eventually, I could barely lift my left arm, and the pain began radiating down my arm, causing numbness in three of my fingers. I initially went to urgent care, where I was prescribed muscle relaxers and advised to take Advil or Aleve. Unfortunately, the pain continued to intensify. Soon, I was unable to turn my head in certain directions, sleep comfortably, lift everyday items, care for my three young children, or complete basic household chores. Nothing seemed to help—not standing, sitting, pain medication, stretching, or rest. While searching online for answers, I found Dr. Tarleton and scheduled an appointment a few days later. He performed X-rays of my neck, which revealed disc space narrowing between my C6 and C7 vertebrae. Dr. Tarleton then recommended an MRI for a more detailed evaluation. The MRI confirmed multiple issues, including a disc bulge and disc protrusion at C6-C7, mild to moderate spinal canal stenosis, a left foraminal disc herniation with moderate to severe left foraminal stenosis, and mild right foraminal stenosis. Dr. Tarleton prescribed nerve and pain medications to help manage my symptoms while I waited for an epidural injection. About two and a half weeks later, Dr. Goldstein performed the epidural. By that point, I had been in severe pain for nearly four weeks. Both Dr. Tarleton and Dr. Goldstein were incredibly patient, compassionate, and thorough in explaining my diagnosis, treatment options, and what to expect throughout the process. One week after the epidural, I began physical therapy with Kyle and Shelby. Almost immediately after the injection, I noticed the pain starting to dissipate. However, I still experienced numbness in my fingers and significant weakness in my left arm. Kyle and Shelby were exceptional. They were professional, knowledgeable, and always made sure I was comfortable before challenging me during therapy. They taught me exercises to relieve tension in my trapezius muscle, improve my posture, strengthen my neck and arm, and prevent future flare-ups. They also provided a home exercise program that has been invaluable in my recovery. I cannot thank Kyle and Shelby enough, and I will genuinely miss seeing them twice a week. I am incredibly grateful to the entire team at Orlin & Cohen for helping me through what was undoubtedly one of the most difficult three-month periods of my life. Their expertise, compassion, and dedication made all the difference in my recovery. I highly recommend them to anyone in need of orthopedic, pain management, or physical therapy care.
