I'm a professional speed skater, and the pain of osteoarthritis almost forced me to hang up my blades for good. Now, I'm looking forward to a lifetime of skating following a right hip replacement performed by James A. Germano, M.D.

I had struggled with hip pain for years. It got to the point where I had to force myself to skate. I knew I had to do something about it or stop skating. That's when my friend, who also is an athlete, suggested I contact the good people at Orlin & Cohen.

During my initial appointment with Dr. Germano, I outlined my long list of physical activities, which includes ice and inline speed skating, long-distance cycling, mountain biking and skiing. After that first meeting, I felt confident I had found the right doctor and the right practice.

Dr. Germano understood that even though I'm older, I'm still an athlete. He knew what I was looking for. It was very important to me that he is a subspecialist in my problem area – the hip – and that he also is very well-versed in treating athletes. Following my hip replacement surgery, I underwent physical therapy, initially as an inpatient and then at Orlin & Cohen. After three months, I was able to resume skating.

For the first time in years, I look forward to skating again. Thank you, Dr. Germano and Orlin & Cohen, for giving me back my passion for skating. I now know it's something I'll be doing for years.
