After taking a bad fall exiting a swimming pool while away on our vacation in Greece this past summer (9/24), I had to suffer with the most pain I've ever had while somehow getting through the last 4 days of our trip. I saw a doctor there who only looked at my wrist and despite all the swelling and black and blue, he said "don't worry, it'll be good in 2 weeks. One week after arriving back in New York it felt worse and the swelling was greater. In any event I was fortunate to see Dr. Mitgang in the Lynbrook Orlin and Cohen office who specializes in wrist fractures. My x-rays revealed a fractured wrist. He then fit me in a cast and explained everything and predicted almost to the day, after OT, that I would be almost back to normal. He then gave me the prescription for OT, and since Orlin and Cohen had a PT/OT center one floor above and only 10 minuets from home, I hit a home run. I've had physical therapy in other places, but I really didn't expect to be made to feel as important as my occupational therapist, Ms. DiMaio made me feel. She was so thorough in assessing the degree of my injured wrist, I then asked her opinion on what my prognosis would be. She was so confident that she could get me back to almost 100% mobility and strength. She told me that "as long as I was willing to do all the exercises" she gave me to do at home in addition to the work with her I'd be almost back to normal. So I did the exercises every day at home and saw her twice a week at the Lynbrook OT center. It's now about 2 moths later and as of her last assessment, I'm like she promised, almost 100%. Thank you so much Ms. DiMaio for not being afraid to push me and believing in me. And thank you Dr. Mitgang for paying attention in medical school (as a retired teacher). Anyone who gets either Dr. Mitgang and or Samantha DiMaio will be as grateful as I am.
